FEEVA is working in a joint process with the European Radiological Protection Competent Authorities (HERCA) on developing a recognized standard for use of radiographs about Pre-purchase Examinations of horses. It is a two-step process where the first step has been to describe a joint position with the aim for the development of a recognized standard. You can read the joint position by clicking here .
The second step is agreeing on a practical protocol with descriptions of individual projections included. The initial part of step two has been a FEEVA member consultation, where all members were invited to send their suggestions for radiographic projections to be included in a European recognized standard protocol for PPE. All suggestions should be supported by evidence for its prognostic use (scientific publications). After the consultation, the material was reviewed.
The projections included based on the review will be presented at the next FEEVA PPE Symposium to be discussed. Unfortunately, due to the COVID19 pandemic, this step has been postponed but is expected to go forth in April 2022 (information about the symposium will be published later).
As part of the second step, HERCA will equally evaluate the reviewed material, and the overall process will lead to a joint agreement for a recognized European standard for use of radiographs about Pre-purchase Examinations of horses.
