FEEVA

On 9 September 2026, FEEVA held its annual General Assembly in Birmingham, UK, alongside the BEVA Annual Congress and hosted by the British Equine Veterinary Association (BEVA). Chaired by President Joe Collins, the meeting brought together delegates and guests from across Europe for discussions on equine health, welfare, ethics, medicines, and European veterinary developments.

Following the President’s Report and a welcome from incoming BEVA President Kate Blakeman, guests and representatives from FEEVA’s partner organisations shared updates on their activities and opportunities for continued collaboration.

FEEVA’s Working Groups reported on key activities in disease surveillance, ethics and welfare, medicines, assisted reproduction, pre-purchase examinations and European equine policy. A key decision was the adoption of FEEVA’s Position Paper on the Chronic Medication of Competition Horses. Members also approved the 2025 financial reports, discharged the Treasurer and Board of Directors, and adopted the 2027 budget.

In the Board elections, Vincent Boureau (France, AVEF) was elected as a new Board member, while Michael Köhler was confirmed for a second two-year term. FEEVA warmly welcomes Vincent to the Board and thanks Michael for his continued commitment.

The afternoon focused on ethical dilemmas in equine veterinary practice, featuring guest speaker Professor Madeleine Campbell from the University of Nottingham and an interactive session with speakers from IEVA, KNMvD, AAEP and World Horse Welfare. Discussions addressed responsible antimicrobial use, horse restraint and handling, and challenging ethical situations in everyday equine practice.

The Assembly concluded with the announcement that the 2027 FEEVA General Assembly will take place on 16 September 2027 in Salzburg, Austria.
