2022 could be a turning point for the European Horse Industry, struggling to manage the Impact of the Covid crisis, the Brexit and the implementation of the new European Animal Health legislation. Interesting presentations were given about the importance of the European Equine industry and what European action can help the Equine industry.

Julius Peters, FEEVA president, and Roly Owers, Chief Executive World Horse Welfare, presented the “ONE HEALTH CONCEPT AND THE WELFARE OF EQUINES” focusing on the Health and Welfare of Equidae in the EU: Farm to Fork Strategy, EU Platform on Animal Welfare, Antimicrobial Resistance legislation, and a review of Equine issues within the Animal Welfare legislation. Julius Peters especially talked about how antimicrobial resistance has to be combatted in a scientific One Health way, by promoting prudent and responsible use in all sectors and not by banning antimicrobials without a scientific foundation.
